Our Services

We lay driveways and patios across Essex, and we do the groundwork, brickwork and fencing that finishes them off.

Most people come to us knowing roughly what they want but not how it all fits together. This page covers what each job actually involves - and what they have in common, which is usually the part that matters most.

What We Do

Imprinted Concrete

A single slab of concrete, poured and then textured and coloured while it's still workable, so it comes out looking like stone, brick or cobble.

Because it's one continuous surface, there are no joints for weeds to come through and no individual blocks to sink or shift. It's our longest-standing specialism and the surface we're best known for across Essex.

Best if: you want a clean, uniform finish with very little to maintain year to year.

Resin Driveways

Stone and resin, either mixed together and trowelled smooth or scattered over a resin layer for a fixed gravel finish. The first is permeable and handles front garden drainage on its own; the second is rougher and grippier, which suits slopes and ramps.

Either way it's a surface layer, so what's underneath decides how long it lasts.

Best if: you want a seamless finish, or you've got a sound concrete or tarmac drive worth building on rather than digging up.

Resin bound and resin bonded driveways

Block Paving

Individual blocks laid on a prepared base, in clay or concrete, in herringbone, basketweave or a bespoke pattern.

The advantage is that it's repairable. If a section settles or a block gets damaged, it can be lifted and relaid without touching the rest of the drive. It's also the most flexible surface for awkward shapes and edges.

Best if: you want a traditional look, or a surface that can be repaired in sections later.

Driveways

If you know you want a new drive but not what to put on it, start here.

We've set out how imprinted concrete, block paving and gravel compare on cost, upkeep, how long they last and how they age - along with what tends to suit older properties versus newer ones.

Best if: you're still deciding between surfaces.

Patios

Porcelain, natural stone or block paved, laid on a proper base with falls that take water away from the house rather than towards it.

Porcelain has taken over a lot of the market in the last few years - it doesn't stain, doesn't need sealing and holds its colour. Natural stone weathers more, which some people want and some don't.

Best if: you're doing the back garden, or a patio and path together.

Hard Landscaping

The work around the edges that makes the difference between a driveway that looks finished and one that looks dropped in.

Retaining walls, brick edging, steps, fencing, turfing and decking - handled by the same team, at the same time, rather than by someone you have to book separately once we've gone.

Best if: your job involves levels, boundaries or making good afterwards.

What Every Job Has in Common

Whichever surface you go for, the parts that decide whether it lasts are the same... and they're all underneath.

The Dig-out

How much comes off the top depends on the ground and what the surface has to carry. A drive taking two cars needs more underneath it than a garden path, and getting this wrong is the most common reason driveways fail early.

The Sub-base

Compacted hardcore, laid in layers rather than all at once. This is the part nobody sees and the part that does the work. It's also the easiest place for a cheap quote to save money.

Drainage

Water has to go somewhere. If you're paving more than five square metres of front garden with a surface water can't pass through, you need to deal with it on your own land - soakaway, permeable surfacing, or a channel to a border. We build it into the design rather than adding it on afterwards.

Edges and levels

Falls away from the house, edges that hold the surface in, and levels that meet your threshold, path and gate properly. It's fiddly and it's where a job either looks right or doesn't.
