Very few driveways or patios are just a surface. There's usually a wall to hold back a bank, steps down to a lawn, a fence that has to come out and go back, or a strip of grass that gets churned up in the process.

That's the work we're talking about here. We do it ourselves, at the same time as the paving, rather than finishing the drive and leaving you to find someone else for the rest.

What We Do

Brickwork

Retaining walls, boundary walls, piers, steps and edging. Matched to the existing brickwork on the house where it needs to be, which usually matters more than people expect on a front wall.

Fencing

Close board, panel and post-and-rail, with concrete or timber posts. Most often it's a boundary that has to come down for access and go back up properly afterwards, or a fence that's simply had its day.

Turfing and Lawns

Making good after the work is done, reshaping a lawn to fit a new driveway line, or turfing an area that's been cut about. Ground preparation matters more than the turf does.

Decking

Raised decks, ground-level decking and steps, usually where a level change makes a patio awkward or a garden falls away from the house.

Garden Planters

Built-in brick or rendered planters, most often incorporated into a retaining wall or used to soften the edge of a new patio.

Retaining Walls and Level Changes

This is the biggest part of our landscaping work and the part most worth getting right, because a retaining wall is a structure, not a decoration.

A wall holding back a bank has soil pushing against it and water building up behind it, and both of those forces are constant. Walls fail when they're built as though they were only a boundary - no proper foundation, nothing to let water out, and nothing tying the wall back into what it's holding.

Why It's Better Done at the Same Time

Most of this work is far easier while we're already there. The machinery is on site, the waste is going in the same skips, and the levels are being set once instead of twice.

It also means things actually line up. A retaining wall built to the finished level of a driveway that hasn't been laid yet is guesswork. Built alongside it, it isn't.

And you deal with one team once, rather than booking a bricklayer six weeks after the drive is finished and hoping the brick still matches.
