What Imprinted Concrete Actually Is 

It's a single slab of concrete, poured in one go, with colour worked through the surface and a texture pressed into it while it's still soft.

Once it's cured and sealed, you get the appearance of stone, brick, cobble or slate - but as one continuous surface rather than hundreds of separate pieces sitting on sand.

That's the whole point of it. There are no joints, so there's nowhere for weeds to come through, nothing to work loose under a car's steering, and nothing to sink in one corner and not another.

Why People Choose It

Nothing grows through it

The most common complaint about block paving is weeds in the joints. Imprinted concrete doesn't have joints, so there's nothing to weed and no jointing sand to top up.

Nothing sinks or shifts

Individual blocks can settle unevenly, particularly where cars turn. A single slab moves as one piece or not at all.

It handles the weight

Properly laid, it takes vehicles without rutting or spreading at the edges.

You can have any pattern

Slate, cobble, brick, riven stone - and colours mixed to suit the house rather than picked from three options.

Upkeep is a jet wash and a reseal

No re-sanding, no lifting and relaying, no weedkiller. A wash down when it needs it and resealing every few years.

Patterns & Colours

The pattern is pressed in with mats while the concrete is still workable, so what you choose is decided before the pour rather than after.

Our Process

How We Lay It

Dig out

The existing surface comes up and the ground is excavated to the depth the job needs. What comes off depends on the ground and what the drive has to carry.

Sub-base and edges

Compacted hardcore laid in layers, with edges and levels set so the falls take water away from the house.

Reinforcement and pour

Steel mesh goes in and the concrete is poured, levelled and worked to a consistent finish across the whole area.

Colour and imprint

Colour is applied and worked in, then the pattern is pressed with mats while the concrete is still plastic. This has to happen in a specific window - it's the part of the day that can't be rushed or delayed.

Joints and wash off

Control joints are cut to manage movement, and the surface is washed off once it's cured enough to take it.

Seal

The sealer goes on last. It brings the colour up and protects the surface.

aftercare

Looking After It

Day to day there's very little to it. A jet wash when it needs it and that's about the size of it - no weeding, no re-sanding, no lifting blocks.

The one thing that does need doing is resealing, roughly every few years. The sealer protects the surface and keeps the colour, and letting it go too long is the main reason older imprinted drives look tired.

We reseal drives we've laid, and drives other people laid. If yours has gone dull, it's usually recoverable.

 

should you choose imprinted concrete?

Is It Right for Your Property?

We'd rather tell you it isn't right for your property than lay something you'll be unhappy with. If block paving suits you better, we'll say so - we lay that too.

Usually a good fit if:

You want a uniform, clean finish with minimal upkeep

Weeds through block paving have annoyed you before

The drive gets regular vehicle use and turning

You want a pattern or colour that isn't off the shelf

You're happy to reseal it every few years

Worth considering something else if:

You want to be able to lift and relay sections yourself

There are mature trees very close to the drive

You want a surface that needs nothing at all doing to it

Access is too tight to get concrete to where it's going
